Raised Garden Beds
Raised garden beds have become quite the hit, for many reasons.
Less bending, less weeding, and less critters.
This little garden here is about 2 years old.
Made from Green Lumber right off of our mill.
Never waterproofed, and still standing strong.
Measuring 75” in length, 42” in width, and 25” in height.
Making the perfect size garden for a small family.
But, not all raised gardens have to be this tall.
They can range from 6” – 24” in depth.
If your garden is going to be placed on top of soil, you can get away with a shallower bed.
And here are a couple of tips for prepping your raised garden bed.
If you are worried about ground critters, line the bed with chicken wire.
If you are worried about weeds, line the bed with cardboard.
Cardboard keeps the soil from seeping out, keeps the soil moist, encourages beneficial earthworms, and adds nutrients to the soil when breaking down.
First layer, chicken wire.
Second layer, cardboard.
Third layer, the perfect mixture of topsoil, compost, and organic material.
Add a new 2” – 4” of topsoil/compost every year and let the worms do the job of mixing it.
Simple. Sweet. Done.
Ready to grow every year.
The average cost of lumber for a garden of these dimensions would range from $100 - $200
